A Symbol of Technological Revolution in Agriculture

Innovation, technology and working with unique data are not only applied in services and emerging fields, but surprisingly also in agriculture. The so-called Precision agriculture is a rational and progressive economic approach to landscape cultivation, based on clever monitoring of the condition of stands and analysis of data on soil, water and air. The aim is to reduce the cost of irrigation, fertilizers and plant protection chemicals, achieve better yields, farm more efficiently and thus protect the environment as a whole. CleverFarm applications are a platform for precision agriculture solutions.

The whole idea of developing new technologies for the farming industry to achieve greater efficiency came to the attention of CleverFarm co-founder Adam Zloty, who has grown up in this sector since childhood, and proved to be one of the impulses for the creation of the CleverFarm platform.  Another catalyst was the need to apply modern technologies to find solutions to current shortcomings, not only to help the farmers themselves, but especially to contribute to the protection of the environment. Reducing the negative environmental impact of the entire sector was one of the key motives for founding Cleverfarm.

Shortly after the founding of CleverFarm in 2016, the Natland Group invested in the Company, which is now focusing on expanding into foreign markets and preparing for the next investment round.

Cultivation Seen From Orbit

The result of precision agriculture is, above all, efficient work with fertilizers, water and seeds. In short, the company offers a system for accurate monitoring of key factors related to the cultivated stand and its current state. CleverFarm draws both current and historical data on soil and air conditions based on which it proposes the most appropriate procedure to achieve the best results, also in terms of eco-friendliness. The company manages to do this through automation and delivery of easy-to-understand, precise data, which bring clients significant economic benefits and savings of up to 50%.

To this end, together with its partner Gisat, CleverFarm has developed a unique way of analyzing satellite images based on the study of plant samples. It is a technical model that can be applied anywhere in the world for any crop. CleverFarm is one of only two companies in the world that currently offer similar models and services. Thanks to satellite monitoring of the current state of the stands, the system evaluates and recommends when, with what intensity, and in which land location to carry out cultivation operations. The key factor is the interpretation of data. The point is not only to get information about what is happening in the field, but also why it is happening – both in the short and long term. In addition, CleverFarm is constantly improving calculations using artificial intelligence for them to be more and more accurate, year after year.

Larger farmers operate on large plots of land of hundreds of hectares, but the land is not always the same, and its quality or ability to absorb moisture and nutrients varies considerably. The application therefore methodically divides the land into several specific zones according to different conditions and what the land needs. The farmer thus obtains information on where exactly more fertilization is needed and where it is time to reduce the amount required. This in turn optimizes costs.

CleverFarm Also Uses Intelligent Sensors For Quality Data

To obtain even more accurate data for optimization purposes, the company also uses special IoT sensors in combination with satellite data. They measure and send information about the conditions prevailing in the air and soil to its cloud application. For example, soil sensors record information on soil moisture and temperature, while weather stations calculate precipitation, temperature and humidity, or wind direction and strength. This has an impact on planned irrigation for optimal watering and reduction of water consumption. Thanks to sensors, farmers can also predict the occurrence of diseases and pests. Chemicals are thus used for plant protection only in cases where it is absolutely necessary. With the help of variable fertilization, it is therefore possible to reduce the production of greenhouse gases and improve the condition of the soil, but above all also to save hundreds of billions of crowns a year. The stored crop is then monitored by special hall sensors, the purpose of which is to further prevent a reduction in total yields.

Precise Agricultural Revolution

CleverFarm primarily focuses on larger farms, but also works with smaller ones, with optimal results. Its technologies are also used in the management of city parks and clients include golf and football courses. In the last five years, farmers have started to think sustainably and are not afraid to use smart solutions. Agriculture is experiencing a 4.0 revolution. That is why CleverFarm has been able to expand. The CleverFarm solution helps irrigation and nutrient management for farmers in Chile, Argentina, Colombia, as well as Sudan and Kenya. The company has big plans. By 2025, they want to achieve a turnover of 1 billion crowns and gradually introduce their services worldwide – with the ambition to become a symbol of progress in modern agriculture.
