The world’s first city eco-hotel with a zero energy balance and Sustainability Hero for Austria in the Environment category of SME EnterPRIZE

In 2009, the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle was established as an extension of a finely renovated turn-of-the-century building, which has been the pride and joy of the owner Michaela Reitterer ever since. This is because the annex, with its modern design, is not only cosy, but has most importantly a real zero-energy balance. The Boutiquehotel Stadthalle produces in a year as much energy as it consumes thanks to a groundwater heat pump, the photovoltaic system and the solar system. This makes the boutique hotel a pioneer in terms of sustainability and all employees of the hotel proud to work there.

The team of the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle is really serious about environmental protection, as this overview clearly demonstrates:

• by doing without minibars in the rooms, 21,024 kg of CO2 are saved per year;
• 100 percent of the waste generated is separated;
• The hotel’s own photovoltaic system provides clean electricity all year round, which is produced in-house, and the solar system provides hot water;
• Eco-shower heads, LED light bulbs, and appliances on standby reduce water and energy consumption

The Boutiquehotel Stadthalle uses materials produced according to the Cradle-to-Cradle principle. This means thinking in advance that materials can be given a new purpose after use – in keeping with the dictates of circular economy. In this way, precious resources are not wasted.

Guests are also motivated to travel sustainably: those who arrive by train, bicycle or electric car receive a Green Bonus of 10 percent off the room rate.

The “Green at Heart” concept is not only linked to an ecological idea. In the hotel’s idyllic courtyard garden, there is a green oasis in the middle of Vienna: green overgrown walls, a lavender roof and a beehive that provides guests with exquisite honey.

The fresh air from this dream garden is fed into the rooms around the clock via a passive house ventilation system – even when the windows are closed!
