Welfare Champion in Welfare Index PMI and nominated in the Community category of SME EnterPRIZE

Illumia, a Bolognese company, offers Gas and Light services and energy-saving solutions. The company launched a pilot project for smart working as early as 2019, which now, given the pandemic, has been expanded to 100% of all daily activities.

During the health emergency, Illumia never ceased to work, but rather took the opportunity to assess commercial development activities and sustainable mobility projects, which resulted in the launch of new initiatives, such as purchasing fleets of scooters, bicycles and electric motorcycles for employees to use around the city. The company has also made several investments in welfare initiatives to support its people, even during remote working, and has not lost sight of the community in which it operates.

Starting mid-2020, a gradual return of workforce to the company began, with staggered shifts and a complete reorganization of the headquarters based on anti-contagion protocols. To assist employees during the health emergency, as well as provide support during quarantine, Illumia activated a network of agreements with major medical centres and health facilities in the area.

As 54% of the staff is composed of women, the company is especially committed to reconciling family and work-life through welfare activities, such as a one-thousand euro bonus each for new mothers, which can be spent on goods and services for the babies, the organisation of summer camps for employees’ children, and flexible working hours for mothers.

The average age within the company is 33 and Illumia strongly encourages the inclusion of young people: over the years, opportunities for growth and training have been activated especially for them.

The company has also launched numerous support and solidarity initiatives in its territory: from the sponsorship of a rugby team made up of inmates from the city prison to the preparation and distribution of food packages for vulnerable families in collaboration with Banco di Solidarietà.

Illumia also stands out for its noteworthy partnerships with consumer associations, which periodically verify compliance with recruitment and quality monitoring policies of sales agencies.

Finally, corporate events are also of great importance to the company. One such example is “Give & Go“: a day dedicated to sharing company objectives achieved, along with plans for the future, which this year was called “In Cordata” (Roped Ascent) and featured mountaineering record-holder, Simone Moro.

It is from building relationships that Illumia has managed to forge its path in recent years, as well as through constant sharing of its objectives and successes. In times like the one we are currently experiencing, human relationships are put to the test. We want to reaffirm that relationship building is at the core of our strength – it is our main asset”, said Marco Bernardi, President of Illumia.
